Snippet from Naughty List Story

Katherine Kingston Posted on November 21, 2014 by Katherine KingstonNovember 21, 2014

LynnSexySaturday_buttonThis post is part of the My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop.  More information at www.mysexysaturday.blogspot.com.

Here are seven paragraphs from my story, Prelude to a Most Unusual Marriage, in the forthcoming Naughty List anthology, now available for pre-order at Amazon and other e-sellers!

Her mouth opened in a soft moan. His tongue swept in to explore the depths and recesses. Excitement frothed her blood and bubbled through her. Desire rose, making her want to open more than just her mouth to him. She wanted to feel his hands on parts of her body below her face. Her breath sped up and she reached up to cup her hands in his thick, soft hair.

A few exciting moments later, he broke away and took a step back. “Elizabeth… I’m sorry. I should not have done that.”

She collected her breath. “Why not, Richard? We are both free of other promises.”

“But we must find you a husband who’ll treasure you as you deserve.”

“As I deserve,” she echoed softly. She shook her head. “That is the issue. I deserve nothing. But what about yourself, Richard? Surely you mean to marry again. You’ve a title to pass on.”

He swallowed hard. “I do mean to marry. Perhaps soon. I’m hopeful.”

“She is a most fortunate lady then.”

Prelude to a Most Unusual Marriage is a very naughty historical set in the Victorian period.

It’s Been a Long Time!

Katherine Kingston Posted on November 12, 2014 by Katherine KingstonNovember 12, 2014

I’ve been quiet for a long time now, mostly because real life has been piling on the distractions from writing. Between the day job and family, I wasn’t writing much at all for a long time.

But things have changed some now and I’m getting back to writing.  I’m doubly excited to be part of a new group of EC authors who’ve come together to publish our own anthologies, the Naughty Literati.NL_Banner1The first anthology will be out December 1st and should be available for pre-order shortly.

Sexy Saturday Excerpt – Ruling Passion

Katherine Kingston Posted on June 29, 2013 by Katherine KingstonJune 24, 2013

Ruling_Passion_smHere’s a seven-paragraph excerpt from my very first EC novel, Ruling Passion, a medieval historical:

******************************************************

She had to take a deep breath. “I cannot pay you anything in gold.”

The same blond eyebrows rose. The shiver that went down her spine this time held an element of fear as well as admiration.

“Last night you claimed you could,” he said.

“I was desperate to be free of that cell,” she admitted. “But I’ll pay in any way I can.”     A cold light sparkled in the narrowed gray eyes. “Money is the coin of exchange I deal in. That is what you promised me last night.”

“And I thought you an honorable man last night,” she countered. “One who would understand a woman’s desperation. One who could value a human life over any amount of money.”

His expression didn’t change. “I regret, my lady, I don’t have the luxury of such sentimentalities. The money I earn from risking my life and those of the men who serve me supports my estate, the people who work on it, myself, and my king.”

Rosalind bit her lip briefly and drew in a long, hard breath. “I would willingly pay you with my service.”

LIFELINE will be temporarily unavailable after the end of June

Katherine Kingston Posted on June 26, 2013 by Katherine KingstonJune 24, 2013

Lifeline_medI’m sorry to say that Whispers Publishing is closing its doors as of the end of June. I can’t say enough good things about this publisher. Although they only had one of my stories, they were a class group all the way.  Communication was open and rapid, editing good, and my royalty statements and payments always arrived on time.  I truly regret the loss of this fine small publisher.

They’re going out in just as classy away and rights to my novella have already been returned to me.  I will be re-releasing it myself, but I want to do some reworking on the story first.

They’ve given me permission to continue to use this great cover and I’m debating whether I want to continue using it (minus the Whispers logo on the side).

How Does a Character in a Story Break Hearts?

Katherine Kingston Posted on February 8, 2013 by Katherine KingstonFebruary 8, 2013

Heartbreaker_hopThis post is part of the Heartbreaker  blog hop. Scroll down to the end for information about prizes available and other participants.

How Does a Character in a Story Break Hearts?

This topic made me think more about how I write heroes and what makes readers relate to them and care for them. Our heroes come in a lot of different types and flavors, but I’ve had a few ideas about what makes readers connect with them.

Warning: disconnected thoughts ahead.

Heroes have to be strong, confident, smart, but they also have to have a vulnerability, something or someone they care about so passionately that they’ll take risks and make sacrifices to keep them safe and happy.

The heroes that break my heart have had to overcome adversity already to get where they are. They’ve been tested, sometimes they’ve failed, but they’ve learned from it.

They don’t give love or trust easily, but when they do, it’s all in. They take betrayal hard, but will give everything they’ve got–and even more–for the people they do care about.

They’re strong, even ruthless at times, but can be gentle when needed.

I’m sure there’s more…  What do you think makes a character a heartbreaker?

Secret_Santa_Sir_smThe hero of my most recent release, Secret Santa Sir is a hero and a heartbreaker.  He’s not your average romance hero in many ways, but he’s willing to take a huge risk to get the woman he loves!

Blurb: When Maggie gets a note from a very unofficial Secret Santa during the office’s holiday gift exchange, she’s surprised to be tempted by it. This Secret Santa offers to help fulfill her wilder sexual fantasies, those fantasies she’s never admitted to anyone else. Normally the very professional, uptight Maggie wouldn’t consider doing anything so risky. She wants a husband and family, but she also has kinky sexual fantasies and no man has ever moved her.

Maggie agrees to Santa’s proposal, and her first few anonymous encounters with him are a revelation, showing her levels of sensuality she’s never experienced before. But when she meets the man behind the gifts and the glorious kisses, her life gets seriously complicated.

As Maggie begins to fall in love with him, she faces two choices—longing for husband and family, and continuing a relationship that fulfills her in ways she never believed possible.

Whoo Hoo!

Katherine Kingston Posted on January 27, 2013 by Katherine KingstonJanuary 27, 2013

reviewertoppick2I’m thrilled that Night Owl Reviews gave SECRET SANTA SIR 4 1/2 stars and a top pick!

The reviewer said: “Secret Santa Sir is an engrossing and kinky countdown to Christmas. I loved the inventive lyrics to The Twelve Days of Christmas, as well as, the elements of surprise. I really liked Maggie and her man (sorry no secrets revealed). Their unusual relationship is fascinating to watch as it progresses. I thought that the time away from the kink was crucial and gave the reader a true sense of the characters. The sex is scorching and intense. From a personal preference standpoint, the pain for pain’s sake was close to the edge of my comfort zone; but the scenes are well written and emotional. Very highly recommended!”

A few of my favorite things at Christmas and a couple I don’t love

Katherine Kingston Posted on December 14, 2012 by Katherine KingstonDecember 13, 2012

This post is part of the Holiday Gifts of Love blog hop. Scroll down to the end of information about prizes available and other participants.

I love Christmas, almost everything about it–except shopping.  Actually, it’s not the shopping I mind so much as it is the traffic jams in the parking lots, fighting the crowds, and waiting forever in line to check out. I actually love buying gifts for people. I’m not the greatest at choosing those “perfect gifts” but I like trying, and I think I do okay at it. At least, nobody’s handed back any of my gifts, yet. If some things have been quietly “regifted,” no one’s told me about it, so it didn’t happen.

And then there’s the baking.  In an earlier post, I shared how I cook my pumpkin and turn it into pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins and pumpkin cookies. I usually freeze some of those goodies so we can have them at Christmas too.

But it’s not just pumpkin. In fact, I have a number of cookie recipes that my family loves—chocolate chips, sugar cookies, molasses cookies, cinnamon cookies and orange cookies. If any of those are missing, there will be howls of outrage from some quarter. I usually start baking in November and tuck batches away in a back corner of the freezer.

I try to do one new cookie recipe each year. Mostly they turn out pretty good, but not special enough to dislodge any of the top five. Sometimes, they’re pretty good and they get added to the alternate list.  I can only remember one true disaster – the fruitcake cookies. Enough said. I can’t even remember why I thought those might be a good idea.

I like decorating, too, and I probably kind of overdo it. I think it’s a reaction thing. In general my style of decorating is pretty simple. I don’t like clutter and I hate dusting things. Christmas is the exception. I cover every available surface with tinsel, ornaments, candles, doo-dads, etc.

So what don’t I love (aside from the traffic jams, crowds, and long lines)?

Christmas in October, for one. I hate going into a store in October and finding them already moving out the Halloween stuff and moving in Christmas, two weeks before Halloween!  And it bugs me that Christmas ends on December 26th. Traditionally the season goes to January 6th, the feast of Epiphany, the commemoration of the arrival of the Magi. In some places that’s the day of the gift exchange, and historically Christmas was celebrated primarily from Dec. 25 to January 6 – the traditional twelve days. I hate it when everyone takes all the decorations down on Boxing Day.

Then there’s the music. Don’t get me wrong; I really like most Christmas music. I just don’t like hearing “White Christmas” 25 times in a row, as recently happened when I was in a restaurant with my daughter, where they had one of those singing figurines set up and running. And running. And running. I wondered how the staff felt about it. It drove me nuts in the hour we were there. I’ll bet the staff wanted to take a sledgehammer to it and beat it to death.

But, I’m not really a Scrooge. I love Christmas enough that I’ve written three specifically Christmas stories: The Last Candle (in the print anthology, Holiday Heat), Gargoyle’s Christmas, and my most recent release, Secret Santa Sir. One of my medieval historical novels, Binding Passion, takes place partly around Christmas as well.

So: What do you like most about Christmas? Dislike most?

Now for the promo part…

This is an offer to help you discover the possibilities of your wilder fantasies. You’re not obliged to accept it, and even if you do, you can call a halt at any time. This is for fun and games. I promise you won’t get hurt any more than you actually want.

When Maggie Marino gets a note from a very unofficial Secret Santa during the office gift exchange, she’s surprised to be tempted by it. She’s at a crossroads in her life. She wants a husband and family, but she also has kinky sexual fantasies and none of the nice guys she’s dated so far have moved her. Blindfolded she meets her Secret Santa and the encounter teaches her what sexual desire is all about. But when she meets the man behind the gifts, her life gets seriously complicated. As she begins to fall in love with him, she’s faced with having to make a decision between her longing for husband and family and a relationship that fulfills her in ways she never believed possible.

Prizes:

One commenter here will win their choice of ebook from all of my books available in ebook form other than the current release, Secret Santa Sir..

There ae also a number of prizes available as part of the hop:
